At the Old Fort Quarter Festival, well as all the history and heritage you could imagine, we have even more on offer. Kavanagh’s Comedy Club are hosting a full weekend of free comedy gigs! We’ll be bringing some of Ireland’s best and brightest comedians from across the country to the heart of Portlaoise. See below for the full list of top comedy talent who will be bringing their raucous humour and wit to The Old Fort Quarter Festival this year.

Eve Darcy

Eve Darcy is a stand-up comedian based in Dublin, having performed in Vancouver, the UK and Edinburgh. Eve performs regularly around Ireland as well as the Vodafone Comedy Festival & Cat Laughs Festival. Eve recently supported John Colleary and appeared in PJ Gallagher’s most recent show.

Eve hosts the ‘AFOG Show’ – a live variety show with a focus on mental health through the Arts. Eve performed her solo show ‘That’s Why’ in the Limerick and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in 2017.

Pauline Shanahan

Pauline has worked as an actor and playwright and since starting comedy has made it to the semi- finals of ‘So You Think You’re Funny,’ the finals of ‘Funny Women UK & Ireland’ and the new act competition in the Bray Comedy Festival.

Pauline has toured her act the length and breadth pf the country and has appeared at the Vodafone Comedy Festival. This year she is taking her show “What’s Cooler than a Hipster? A spinster!” to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival a show she developed at the Scene and Heard Festival in Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin.

Cornelius Patrick O’ Sullivan

Cornelius Patrick O’ Sullivan is a comedian and a poet and is bringing his new show ‘The Family Guy’ to the Old Fort Quarter Festival. Join him on a journey of bad jokes, funny stories and side-splittingly hilarious poems as you delve deeper into the world of professional comedy and amateur fatherhood.

Cornelius regularly appears on TV on the likes of RTÉ’s “Sketch”, “Republic of Telly” and in a number of online comedy viral videos. He has opened for the likes of Dylan Moran & The Rubberbandits and performed at festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Kilkenny Cat Laughs and The Bray Comedy Festival.

Anthony Riordan

Described by The Independent as being “At the centre of a new wave of comedy” that’s currently sweeping the nation, Anthony Riordan has been featured everywhere from RTE’s Republic of Telly to online sites such as Joe.ie, Headstuff.org and many more.

His ability to delve into the darker side of subjects while leaving an audience in hysterical laughter has proven popular with both Irish and international audiences. Hailed by Cork Independent as “A seasoned performer” and Fresh Air Radio Scotland as “Your classic depressed stand-up comic” at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, he is a must-see for any stand-up comedy fan.

Greg Marx

Greg Marx is an award winning comedian, actor and Accountant (Yes an Accountant, there has to be some exception to the rule). A veteran of the Irish stand-up scene, Greg has performed his high energy comedy in all the major stand-up clubs both in Ireland, UK and Scotland and has performed for many years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He is also the Founder of the Comedy Doctors, Ireland’s premier travelling comedy club.

John Sheehan

Jonathan has performed at festivals such as Longitude, B.A.R.E in the woods, Belfast comedy festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for years, as well as touring venues across the country with side splitting act. He never fails to leave audiences in tears with laughter with his hilarious material and impeccable comedic timing.

Ashlee Bentley

Ashlee Bentley is a regular on the Irish comedy circuit and has played the Vodafone Comedy Festival, Longitude & Electric Picnic bringing her quirky, sharp wit to every show. Her understated style, carrying sharp and unexpected punchlines, has earned her awards such Show me the Funny 2015 winner & Funny Women regional winner 2017.
